27% Project

Men's Counselling Service

in Malton & Pickering

A free counselling service for men and people who identify as masculine living in Ryedale.

The 27% Project takes its name from a simple but important fact: men are still far less likely to engage in counselling, making up only around a quarter of people who access our service

(27% to be precise). This is despite the large numbers of men who are struggling with their mental health, as evidenced by the disproportionate number of men who commit suicide.

There are many reasons why men are less likely to access mental health support: traditional views of what it is to be a man, shortage of appropriate services and lack of awareness of those services that are available. By offering this project we hope to encourage more men to get the help that they need

We offer an initial assessment followed by up to 10 counselling sessions with a qualified, experienced counsellor. Support is available for a wide range of concerns, including

(but not limited to):

  • Mild to moderate anxiety

  • Mild to moderate depression

  • Anger management

  • Bereavement and other forms of loss

  • The emotional impact of physical illness, health conditions, or disability

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Significant life changes

  • Work-related stress

Sessions are available face-to-face at Stanley Harrison House in Malton or Pickering Medical Practice and we also offer remote counselling via phone or online if preferred.
