Relationship Counselling

Relationship Counselling starts with the Access Stage, which helps you and the counsellor decide if counselling will be helpful, and what the goal of the counselling should be.

The Access Stage is an opportunity for you to decide if you feel comfortable working with the counsellor and if you can work together as a couple in counselling.  Some couples find that the Access Stage alone is helpful as it might be the first time that they have ever looked at issue within the relationship in this way.   There are four meetings in the Access Stage:

1. You both meet with the counsellor together to start looking at what the relationship issues are and what you want to achieve through counselling.

2.  You then each meet separately with the counsellor to talk about the relationship issues from your perspective.

3. You both meet with the counsellor together again to talk about what has been learnt from the previous meetings.  By the end of this meeting,  you will decide if you wish to proceed with counselling and what the goals should be.

4. It is then up to you as a couple to decide what you want to talk about in counselling sessions and how many sessions you will need.

Please also refer to our Information Sheet about the service.
